Hannah Mulligan

Exeter Medical School

‘My experience of being a national social prescribing champions has been great. In the process of teaching medical students, I myself have learnt more about social prescribing. This scheme provided me with an excellent opportunity to contribute towards shaping the medical curriculum and has helped me hone my presentation skills. This has been a valuable learning and teaching experience for me.’

As medical students, we have a duty to understand our patients beyond the context of the clinical environment, particularly hospitals. Furthermore, I believe that it is irrelevant whether a student plans to work in primary care or not, as all clinicians should have a basic understanding of the scope of social prescribing and how that may apply to a particular patient.

Brighton and Sussex Medical School

‘I am of the view that SP must become an integral part of the medical school curriculum and I hope that our work undertaking this research will feed into the drive to make this happen. I have seen first-hand the improved outcomes that SP offers to patients and it is imperative that we equip the doctors of tomorrow with the knowledge and tools to effectively help their future patient’s live healthier lives.
