Social Prescribing Day - 9th March 2023

What is National Social Prescribing Day?

SP day represents an annual celebration of social prescribing. This is a specific date in the calendar when we highlight the importance and significance of SP within healthcare.

Working in partnership with GPs, community groups, voluntary organisations, medical schools, academics, and students across the UK, our programme of events and activities aims to engage people of all ages. Through this, we hope to improve public awareness and understanding of what SP is and how it is used to better the lives of millions across the UK.

Most importantly, the students of today and future healthcare professionals of tomorrow are at the core of leading this movement, acting as role models and spreading enthusiasm amongst their peers whilst bridging the gap between universities and local communities.

Please tweet about your SP day events and activities using the hashtag: #socialprescribing and tagging us and our core team on Twitter @SP_champScheme

Why is National Social

Prescribing Day needed?

Although SP has recently been recognised as an important pillar in prevention and therefore the future of the NHS, ensuring this concept is implemented in our daily practices requires a collaborative effort. This national movement celebrating hard work, disseminating and showcasing the benefits of SP has the potential to create a ripple effect starting with energy from the front line within local communities and expanding throughout the UK.
